Aokigahara translates as "plain green trees," also known as Jukai ("The Sea of Trees"). It’s a forest at the foot of Mount Fuji on the Japanese island of Honshu. Called "the perfect place to die," the Aokigahara forest has the unfortunate distinction as the world's second most popular place to take one's life. (The first is the Golden Gate Bridge.)

The certain location of the forest, in particular the density of the forest and lowland, provide a "deafening" silence. Complicating matters further is the common experience of compasses being rendered useless by the rich deposits of magnetic iron in the area's volcanic soil.

 

Aokigahara is a kind of a sad place of interest in Japan. This place is considered the habitat of demons and ghosts. In the XIX century the poor Japanese families brought here and left in the forest their children and the elderly who they could not feed.

Aokigahara is a popular place of suicide among the inhabitants of Tokyo and the surrounding area. Each year in the forest 70 to 100 bodies are found. Among the methods of suicide, hanging and poisoning by medication are leading. ed.
